Are Fuller Lips the Key to True Love?

Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching and while a sense of humor and a confident, friendly attitude are important to establishing long term romance, lovely lips might be the key to nabbing a first date. Research reveals that fuller lips might be the key to helping women attract the attention of a potential date. Genetics play a huge role in the fullness of a woman’s lips, but the help of a talented cosmetic dentist can enhance even very thin lips.

How Important are Full Lips?

A recent study conducted at Manchester University revealed that the lips are the most attractive feature in a woman’s face and one of the most sensual features of a woman’s entire body. Researchers tracked the eye movements of 50 male participants as they looked at images of different women. The study participants fixated on the lips for 6.7 to 7.3 seconds, as opposed to less than 1 second of attention paid to the eyes and nose. The vast majority of participants identified “full lips” as the most attractive feature although researchers were quick to point out that women who wear lipstick, regardless of the fullness of their lips, help the male gaze longer.

Porcelain Veneers and Fuller Lips

Veneers are thin sheaths of dental porcelain that your cosmetic dentist affix to the front of your teeth to hide deep stains, chips and breaks, crooked teeth, and teeth that just plain look bad. In addition to a brighter, more even, more attractive smile, many dentists note two surprising side benefits of having veneers placed: lips that look fuller and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth. This phenomenon is due primarily to the position of veneers on top of the natural teeth, which pushes the lips out slightly creating a fuller appearance.

So, if you want pouty lips, should you run out and schedule an appointment with your cosmetic dentist? Not necessarily. Porcelain veneers are first and foremost a dental procedure intended to improve the appearance of the teeth. Fuller lips are merely an added bonus for someone already intending to have veneers placed.
