Your gums should not regularly feel tender or sore. When you eat, you should not think to yourself that your gums feel uncomfortable. When you brush your teeth and floss, you should generally experience no discomfort. If you notice that your otherwise usually comfortable gums are feeling tender, sore, or uncomfortable in some other way, please call us right away. We will schedule checkup, so we may examine your smile to look for signs of gum disease.
Your gums should be a healthy light pink color. If your gums begin to look purple instead of pink or take on a vivid red color, we suggest you contact us. This color change often signifies gum disease. The sooner we treat you for this problem, the easier it is for us to help restore your oral health.
Your gums should not feel puffy or swollen. If they look or feel inflamed, this is another common symptom of gum disease. Rather than attempting to brush longer or harder or treat the problem on your own, we always urge you to come in to see us. We will need to provide you with a deep cleaning to remove the tartar buildup causing the inflammation, so your gum tissue may heal rather than become more damaged.
