Smile Issues: When You Slip Up!

Yes, we are talking about when you literally slip with your hand. Perhaps you’re eating something and you slip, causing your fork or a chip to hurt your soft tissue. Maybe you’re brushing your teeth, you get a little too forceful, and you scrape your gums up just a bit. It can feel a little embarrassing but this is a very common issue (and one that you don’t need to worry about). We can guide you back toward a comfortable smile, so you can stop worrying about your oral health.

Don’t Panic

If you slip with something in your hand, there’s no reason to panic about your oral health. You have simple options. If you managed to cause severe bleeding, you can head to your nearest ER. However, since this type of accident is usually just uncomfortable and may cause minor bleeding, you can rely on home care. If there’s bleeding, apply pressure until it stops. Remember to relax, too, because this happens to just about everyone. Still need a little assistance? Never hesitate to call us!

Keep Your Mouth Clean

Now, keep your smile clean. Wash your hands if you’re going to brush, floss, or touch your oral tissue. Rinse multiple times a day with salt water, which will help keep the area clean and safe from bacteria and infection.

Monitor The Situation

Keep an eye on your smile. If you think something is wrong with your oral health because the site is not healing, it hurts, it is red, it is inflamed, or it’s getting worse, then call us right away! Otherwise, if everything seems to be healing up quite nicely, continue with the rinsing until the issue resolves. Easy!
