This Holiday: 3 Things You Can (And Should) Avoid

If you think we’re going to tell you to avoid certain foods and having a generally wonderful time for the 2017 holidays, think again! The suggestions we have for your oral health are actually extremely simple to follow, while offering exceptional protection.

#1: Brushing Extra Hard

You might think after all of that cranberry sauce, red wine, hot cocoa, etc., that you’ve just exposed your teeth to too many staining agents. As a result, you assume it’s a good idea to brush extra hard, so teeth are extra clean. This isn’t exactly how it works. Just make sure you’re drinking water throughout your meals and then rinsing and brushing before bed. When you brush hard, you irritate your teeth and gums. It’s bad for you, not helpful. Keep going with the gentle care for good results.

#2: Brushing Super Quickly

Don’t let yourself get in a rush and brush extra fast because you still need to buy presents, wrap them, call your aunt, make hotel reservations, and the list keeps going. Instead, make sure you’re setting aside those two minutes for brushing. Your oral health depends on it.

#3: Forgetting The Stuff You Need

There are oh so many ways this can happen when you’re trying to keep up the litany of other details that come with the holidays. You might forget to bring your bruxism treatment with you to your relatives’ house, where you’ll be staying for a few days. You might forget to buy the dental hygiene items you’re out of when you’re out shopping for a turkey! Do yourself and your oral health a huge favor this year: Make comprehensive lists and double check them!
